AdBlue In Your Diesel

All over South Yorkshire we have noticed an increasing number of occurrences of AdBlue contamination whereby somebody has put AdBlue straight into their diesel fuel tank. This is to some extent due to people not being aware of the right way to use it (important: it's actually not a fuel additive), and partly simply because the inlets for diesel and AdBlue are frequently directly next to each other on the automobile.

Now, what exactly is the problem with having AdBlue in your diesel tank? Since AdBlue is mainly ionised water, it is nearly as good as pouring water in to your tank. Diesel and water will not blend in any way and trying to run a diesel car on water will never work. Additionally, the urea is quite corrosive to fuel system lines and seals and is susceptible to crystallisation, blocking injectors and fuel filters.

Assuming you put AdBlue in a fuel tank remove it immediately. And of course never crank the engine - not even to relocate it away from the pump. In cases where you did start the car you would in all likelihood have to have the whole fuel system cleaned and filters replaced.

Water contaminated fuel

Fuel contaminated with water, regardless of whether it is petrol or diesel, can be a significant matter to address in a motor vehicle - particularly in modern-day common-rail engines. Water in diesel or petrol will often bring about idling problems, lumpy running, excessive smoke and, if not addressed effectively, quite possibly blown injectors. Having water in petrol is less difficult to get rid of when compared with water in diesel - this is mostly due to the fact that diesel is an oil.
